Today both big benchmarks NSE BSE closed with significant gains after swinging between gains and losses throughout the day. Market breadth was positive, 1,733 stocks advanced, for 1,099 stocks which declined on the BSE. The Sensex finally closed at 17,166, up 101 points, and the Nifty shut shop at 5,153, up 29 points.
Top NSE BSE gainers were Cairn, Ranbaxy, ICICI Bank and Cipla & Ranbaxy, SKS Microfinance, Vijaya Bank while the biggest losers included SAIL, Jindal Steel, Tata Steel, BHEL and Hindustan Petroleum.
