NSE-BSE : Weekly Performance Report

The Indian markets closed on flat today on 4th March 2011 after volatile session as a result of high cruide prices. Banking, IT and auto were the best performers while capital goods was the looser for the day.. Sensex closed at 18486.45, in the negative by 3.31 points since its previous close, while Nifty moved to 5538.75, in the positive by 2.55 points.
Despite of todays performance BSE stocks closed in positive in this week. Both the benchmarks NSE-BSE broke the losing line this week and closed with considerable gains. Most of the sectors also registered positive movement and among them Auto sector remained the leader.

Weekly Performance Report of indices over the week are as follows:-
  • The Sensex was up 4.5%
  • The Nifty was also up 4.5%
  • The CNX Midcap index was up 4%
  • BSE Smallcap index was up 2.7%
  • BSE Auto up 8%,
  • BSE FMCG up 6.5%
  • BSE Realty up 6.3%
  • BSE Bankex up 5.2%.

Market Analysis and performance for 4th March:-
It was a dull day on Dalal Street today. After moving in a tight range for most of the session today, the markets ended on a flat note. On 4th the domestic stock exchange continued ended the last trading session of the week on a mixed note as the benchmarks pared most of the intraday gains after opening on a robust note.
Soon after the gap up opening, market started to trim its gains as particiapants decided to book some profits at higher levels. As the day progressed the market entered into a tight range and started trading sideways.The Nifty closed with moderate gains afteer huge volatility throughout the day.
 In sectors , the Banking and Auto sectors performed strongly throughout the seeion and gained by 0.53% and 0.44% respectively. However, the Capital Goods sector booked profit, after declining by 2.06% during the session.
The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 18,736.97 and intraday low of 18,448.69.

  • Voltas Ltd.
  • Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were:
